What special events happen regularly/annually in Saint Louis that are especially good for kids (e.g., Balloon Glow, 4th of July parades/fireworks, art or food fairs)?

Balloon Race but not Balloon Glow (Glow happens on foot, in the dark with mobs of people....scary to manage with a preschooler who could easily get lost in the crowd). The race on Saturday is the perfect preschooler event with lots of running around time!

Haven't been here long enough to know and even the fall festival in Kirkwood is kid-friendly but the crowds can make it hard to manage toddlers

The Balloon Glow/Race in Forest Park is always neat on the one weekend in September http://www.greatforestparkballoonrace.com/.
